Advocates in India change focus toward preventing pass on of HIV among injection drug users Some HIV/AIDS advocates in India are shifting their method of fighting the country’s epidemic from promoting condom use and safer-sex practices among commercial sex workers, truck motorists and migrant laborers to targeting injection medication users largely, the AP/International Herald Tribune reports. Indian officials estimate that about 100,000 IDUs reside in the national country, but the US says the true number could possibly be as high as one million. About 10 percent of HIV-positive people in India contracted the virus through injection drug use, according to the country’s National AIDS Control Firm. NACO Director Sujatha Rao stated advocates are aiming to continue the success of health workers in southern India, where HIV cases among young people have decreased, according to a study published earlier this season in the journal Lancet. The FDA added a black box warning to some ADHD medicines, and the American Heart Association gave the controversial advice in 2008 that it had been acceptable to screen a kid beginning on such a medication with a center EKG test. ‘There’s such strong feelings around these drugs’ and if they are overused in kids who might be helped by behavioral therapy by itself, said study writer Dr. William Cooper, a pediatrics and preventive medication professor at Vanderbilt University. ‘The potential safety queries have added another level of concern.’ His study was aimed at resolving the security question. Researchers used medical information from four big wellness plans covering a lot more than 1.2 million people two to 24 years of age. They found 81 cases of serious heart problems from 1998 through 2005 among everyone in the study.
